I’ve lived around the Valkenbosplein for years (Voltastraat, Acaciastraat, Laan van Meerdervoort & Nicolas Tulpstraat) and I always thought that the neighbourhood was a bit boring. But now there is a new kid on the block! He’s called Franklin and this kid has hip(ster) written all over.
Let me tell you more about Franklink, it’s a superstylish café located in the middle of the Valkenbosplein. Wooden tables, a brick wall, nice plants, enamal bowls, cool industrial lamps; it all matches perfectly together.
Café Franklins menu
A cool setting is important, but at Franklins it’s all about food and beers. The menu offers you a few ‘sous vide options’. What? This a method of cooking in which food is sealed in airtight plastic bags then placed in a water bath or in a temperature-controlled steam environment for longer than normal cooking times. The result? Your meat is supersoft! Their pork ribs and pulled pork burger are prepared using this method. Other meat (chicken, entrecôte and burger) on Franklins menu is prepared on charcoal.
We tried the burgers and their steak tartare. Both delicious and very well prepared. The steak tartare has a topping of picallily, rocket and truffle mayonnaise – YUMM! Oh and about the frises; very, very good.
What to drink
Franklin likes beer, he offers you different options, to name a few: Vedette IPA, Tank 7 or Single-Wide IPA Boulevard Brewery. Their beer menu has been put on a column centered in the café. I named it the beer totem pole 😉 If you are not into beer, Franklin also serves wine.
Of course your diner isn’t complete without a dessert, Café Franklin offers you a range of sundaes, lava lava cake (yes I’m definitely coming back to try this) and cheesecake.
So yes, welcome to the neighbourhood Franklin! I think you and me are going to be -not so boring- friends.
