I will keep this one short. Restaurant MaMa Kelly by Rein and Willemien Rambaldo. Finally on this blog! I was waiting for some cool news about it, because EVERYBODY in town clearly knows this restaurant by now.
A little bit of info about Kelly, for those of you who don’t know this mama. It’s located at the former “Ketelhuis”, this used to be the beating hart of the Caballero Fabriek since 1921. Back in the days Frans van der Togt designed the caracteristic building, in which they produced sigarets for several brands. At the Ketelhuis you could find the big kettles 😉 and they dried the tabacco here. And yes, smoking was allowed at that time.
Mama’s looking good
Nowadays the Ketelhuis houses MaMa Kelly, the restaurant is by far the prettiest restaurant in Den Haag in my opinion. All the old elements of the former fabric are still visible, but they added many cool things. A cool (and very Instagrammable) neon sign that says: Guess where I am?, a huge sexy painting on the wall (is this mama herself?), a painting of The Hagues skyline, stylish decoration in black, white and copper, probably the longest bar in town and an open kitchen full of action. Rather you are looking for a more prive booth to eat in, long tables for bigger groups or tables for a (romantic) diner for two: it’s all possible.
The restaurant won an award by Entree Magazine last year: the Hospitality & Style Award 2015, category best restaurant and bar 2015.
Enough about the interior, the food is more important! It’s very simple: chicken or lobster, both served with delicious and award winning fries!
– A friend (a.k.a. lobster lover) of mine once said: “The best lobster that I’ve had in many months”. You go Mama!
– The chicken is superrrrjuicy and roasted in the restaurant itself. They also serve a few other things, but these two are the main attractions ;).
MaMa has plans…
This all-day restaurant is a huge success in The Hague and mama has some big plans: there are plans to open a restaurant in Amsterdam! Oh lala, this MaMa is giving birth.
I don’t need to tell you more about this place. It’s an icon already. GO!
