During the weekend I like to go somewhere new for lunch. Last week I finally went to BLOEM, a super cute, tiny lunchroom near Het Plein! And yes finally, because I walked by this place about four times, but it was always crowded and filled with people.
Last week I did a smart thing, I reserved a table at Bloem for lunch. The lunchroom has about 7 or 8 tables and they were all reserved like I expected. Now I know why: the menu. My mind went like: “It’s all great. There’s a lot. I can’t choose. I want it all. HELP!”. Blueberry pancakes, wentelteefjes, high tea or high lunch, beautiful pieces of pie, a large range of delicious sandwiches.. it’s too much!
After 10 minutes of thinking I ended up ordering a club sandwich with chicken and bacon, my mom had a terrific tuna sandwich and my sister chose toasted bread with nuts, creamy goat cheese, tomato, rocket and vegetables crisps. I was a bit concerned about the size of my sandwich, because at most lunchrooms it’s to small. But at BLOEM they understand what I need: a lot of food. And it was a lot (I had a Ahaaa-moment; that’s why they call it a club sandwich, you can eat the damn thing with a group of people). To be honest I was a bit sad about it. Why? Because the pies looked SO good and I didn’t have any space in my stomach left.. Lemon-Meringue pie, carrot cake, brownies, blueberry cheesecake, I still need to try these sweeties but my eyes fell in love already.
Besides food, they also serve great drinks. What about speculaas latte with Bastogne cookies or smoothies? White chocolate latte or warm milk with Malthesers? Again, this menu… Seriously?!
An other thing my eyes also like, is the way this place is decorated. Cheesy grandma stuff (old lamps, little paintings, fake flowers) in combination with copper details, cute tables en pretty chairs.
So yes, I’ll be back for sure. To try the pies, or to share a club sandwich with a friend. At my reserved table of course 😉
